*Note to Floating License Customers: This updater is for single-user and volume licenses, only. We are currently preparing a patch to fix certain issues that have been reported in 4R3, after which a separate updater will be made for floating clients. Instructions for how to upgrade floating licenses will be sent to your account's contact person once the updater is ready.

Step 1: Deactivate Version 4R2 or 4R2b

The ZBrush 4R3 Updater requires version 4R2 or 4R2b to already be installed on your computer. If you do not have version 4R2 or 4R2b installed and you did not save its installer you will not be able to use this Updater. Instead, please submit a Support ticket at https://support.pixologic.com. Choose the Upgrades department when asked. Be sure to include your Cleverbridge Reference Number (above) so that our staff can assist you promptly.

ZBrush 4R3 will count against your serial number as a new activation. It is therefore highly recommended that before Updating, you deactivate version 4R2 or 4R2b to free your license up for a ZBrush 4R3 activation. Launch ZBrush and click the Zplugin>Deactivation>Web Deactivation button. When your browser opens, enter your email address and then submit the form. You will also need to confirm the deactivation. Once this has been done you may proceed.

Step 2: Make a Backup

Simply make a copy of your ZBrush 4R2 or 4R2b folder. That way you will be able to easily restore custom UI and any custom brushes or other items that might be overwritten by the Updater.

Step 3: Download the Updater

The following link will take you to the Download Center. From there, click the link to download your Updater. The download may not be accessed from any site other than the Upgrades page.

Step 4: Unzip

After downloading the file, unzip it. You will find a file containing a copy of these instructions, in addition to the Updater itself. The instructions file also includes information for special situations, such as if you have installed ZBrush in a location other than the default.

PC Users: Copy the Updater into your ZBrush 4R2 or 4R2b folder. It will not work from any other location!
Mac Users: The Updater can be run from anywhere but will patch /Applications/ZBrush OSX 4R2 or 4R2b. If you've moved or renamed your ZBrush OSX 4R2 or 4R2b folder you will need to temporarily restore it in the Applications directory prior to running the Updater.

Step 5: Update

Once the Updater has been placed in your ZBrush folder, run it to start the Update. Simply follow the on-screen instructions which will walk you through the installation.

Step 6: Activate

After the Updater has completed, launch ZBrush.

Note: For users of Windows Vista or Windows 7 you will need to right-click on the ZBrush application or its desktop shortcut and choose “Run as Administrator”. This is only necessary for activation and should not be used for future launches.

You will now be prompted for Activation. If your computer is connected to the internet, please use Web Activation. That is the fastest and easiest method to complete your activation so that you may begin using the new version immediately.

Please be aware that if you need Phone Activation, wait times are expected to be unusually long during launch week. You might prefer to copy the Request Code from the phone activation screen and submit a Support ticket instead. If you do this, include your serial number and the name you would like to give to the computer. A reply to your Support ticket will then provide your activation code.

Step 7: Happy ZBrushing!

Your Update will now be complete and you will be able to use all of ZBrush 4R3's new features.

By default, your ZBrush 4R3 installation includes a Documentation folder. Within this folder you will find PDF's covering the new features in ZBrush 4R3 as well as everything that was introduced in versions 4, 4R2 and 4R2b.

Following the release of ZBrush 4R3 we will also be updating the Education section of www.pixologic.com to include videos demonstrating the new features.
