QRemesher Alpha &
Topology Brush
Simplify your workflow and
focus energy on designing.
ZBrush 4R4 introduces QRemesher Alpha, freeing you from
the complex tasks of creating new model topology. When
creating clean UV’s with UV Master or exporting your model to
another package for animation, your model’s topology and edge
flow can be important. However, scan data, remeshing and
DynaMesh can all result in highly detailed sculpts that have less
than optimal polygon structure. In those situations, it is
necessary to retopologize the model – a daunting task
for many people and usually highly technical.
QRemesher is result of the collective
efforts of both Pixologic and Verold.
Of course, if you want more direct control of the retopology process, you can drive QRemesher Alpha by using the QRemesher Guide brush to draw curves on your model. These will be used to guide the flow of the resulting edge loops or to outright constrain them to match your curves.
QRemesher Alpha also has the ability to do local retopology on specific portions of your mesh. Simply isolate the section of the mesh you want to modify, then launch the process. ZBrush will automatically bridge connections between the new topology and the rest of the model.
Topology Brush
While ZBrush can use QRemesher Alpha to automatically retopologize a full model or part of one, there may be times when you need to control topology with even more precision. You may even want to create custom meshes or accessories and props. The new Topology brush replaces the ZSphere-based retopology solution, using the freshly optimized curve engine to draw new polygons on-the-fly. When done, click or tap on your support mesh to generate the new polygons. The size of your brush will set the thickness of the model. For example, a Draw Size of 1 creates a polygon surface that is ready for retopology, while a higher value creates a value similar to using the Mesh Extract feature, ready to be sculpted as a prop.
It is extremely fast and easy to create new base meshes in ZBrush using the Topology brush! It is fast, artist-friendly and allows you to create elements such as a shirt, armor base mesh or low polygon shapes to use as Insert meshes – all without leaving ZBrush.

QRemesher Alpha will complete this task for you, providing you with an optimized polygon structure composed mainly of quads. Focus more of your time and efforts on pure creativity!
The QRemesher Alpha’s fully automatic settings are phenomenal. Thanks to its automasking features, mesh density is accurately controlled to put polygons exactly where you need them. The flow of polygons and edge lines will also respect the global mesh curvature. For most of your needs, simply set the target polygon count and press the QRemesher button. Voilà!
