Linking the Past and Future of Art Through ZBrush and 3D Printing

Zoetrope Lead In

Perhaps one of the most exciting aspects of 3D printing, in addition to opening entirely new possibilities in manufacturing and art, is the ability to also open doors to the past.  Zoetropes were groundbreaking inventions in their day and exposed people to the possibilities of animation in one of its earliest forms. This breathtaking zoetrope showcases various time periods throughout the cultural history of western civilization and was made using the modern flexibility of ZBrush and 3D printing.  Artists Mat Collishaw and Sebastian Burdon spent over six months detailing the more than 350 character figures using ZBrush and then printing this amazing piece of art.  Imagine chiseling the same piece from marble by hand!
