Making of the Holochess Set from Star Wars (Possible Spoiler!)
The memorable hologram chess set from the original Star Wars A New Hope makes a cameo appearance in the new film The Force Awakens! Phil Tippett and his team used photogrammetry to recapture the original figures and import them to ZBrush in order to prepare new molds for 3D printing. From there, entirely new figures were cast in order to make use of more advanced, modern armatures.
