ZBrushLive Special Presentation – Pablo Munoz Gomez

Join us August 18th for an exciting stream with Pablo Munoz Gomez as he walks us through his ZBrush ProProject that ships with ZBrush and ZBrush for iPad.
Pablo will cover how to create custom materials and BPR Filters to achieve an illustration-like stylized render !

Optimizing the Canvas for a Crisp Render
(Timestamp: ~9:09)
To achieve sharp, high-quality lines and details in the final render, Pablo recommends working on a larger document and then down-sampling the view. This technique avoids the pixelated, jagged edges that can occur when working at the default document size.

Sculpting for a Comic Style
(Timestamp: ~20:22)
A key takeaway from the presentation is that sculpting for a comic style requires a different approach than creating a traditionally “clean” sculpt. Instead of aiming for perfect smoothness, the goal is to create intentional imperfections, cuts, and hard edges that the comic material and render filters can pick up to create linework and texture. A perfectly smooth model can look flat and uninteresting with a comic shader applied.

Using BPR Filters to Refine the Look
(Timestamp: ~22:16 & ~61:29)
The final stage of the workflow involves using ZBrush’s Best Preview Render (BPR) filters to transform the rendered image. These filters are applied as a post-processing step to the render and can add outlines, noise, color grading, and other effects to achieve the final illustrative style. The project file comes with pre-made filters, but Pablo demonstrates how users can create their own.
