December 31 2002 - Release of the ZBrush 1.55 Demo

The new ZBrush 1.55 Demo enables digital artists to experience all the innovative, award-winning features ZBrush has to offer. Previously, the ZBrush Demo was limited to items found in ZBrush 1.23b. This new trial version has been updated to introduce users to all the powerful tools and enhancements they'll receive in the ZBrush Commercial Version.

Some of these enhancements include:
-New ground-breaking ZSphere 3D modeling tool-New painting and sculpting tools
-Enriched texturing features
-Enhanced lighting and rendering options such as global-illumination
shadows Customizable, streamlined interface.

The ZSphere modeler is an extremely powerful tool for building 3D meshes. It enables artists to construct a skeletal shape around which a "skin" can be stretched, forming a mesh object. ZSphere modeling is highly creative thanks to its ease of use and real-time interactivity, and extremely versatile since users can create virtually any organic shape imaginable.

The ZSphere modeler offers several methods for "skinning" models. Generated meshes are clean, with uniform polygon distribution, making it easy to further sculpt them with other methods. They can be textured by any means including the use of Texture Master (part of ZBrush's free ZScript utility package). Furthermore, they can be optimized and rigged for animation in other programs.

Additional functionality includes Alpha Skinning (enabling you to turn any painting into a 3D object), new stroke types, enhanced texturing capabilities including an updated version of Texture Master, increased ZScript capability, expanded online help, and more.

These enhancements and additions are designed to maximize the artist's creativity and accelerate the concept-to-completion workflow. Combining ZBrush's powerful 2D/2.5D painting, 2D/3D texturing and 3D sculpting tools, artists can express themselves in ways never before possible.

ZBrush is powered by a real-time rendering engine. Based on unique "Pixol" rendering technology, ZBrush enables artists to paint an image with depth -- applying both 2D and 3D effects in one integrated, real-time workspace. Artists can paint with color, material, texture and depth; push and pull the canvas; and sculpt and texture 3D models too. ZBrush has the benefit of pixel-to-pixel control (like a 2D painting program), with the real-time power of 3D modeling and rendering engine (like a 3D application). That means instant feedback, which gives artists more time to experiment and play.... and ultimately be more reproductive.
